The first phase of the Lekki Airport project is expected to cost US$450 million, and it is set to be located about 10 kilometers from the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ). It will be built to accommodate the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger airplane, making it a Code F airport.

The Lagos State Government launched the new international airport project in Ibeju-Lekki due to the massive flow of people streaming in and out of Lagos, as well as the strain on the only existing airport. The new airport is planned to relieve pressure on the aging federally owned Murtala Muhammed International Airport, as well as service the fast-growing industrial Lekki area, the Lekki Deep Seaport, Dangote’s 650,000bpd refinery, Lekki Free Zone and other areas.

Asides its principal function, the new airport will improve both residential and commercial infrastructure. Ibeju-Lekki has already secured major projects such as the Free Trade Zone, bringing it one-step closer to being Africa’s next commercial Centre.

What do all these mean for investors living in Windspring Estate?

Location Advantage

For starters, if you frequently travel, living near an airport is an excellent choice. Owning a house in Windspring Estate provides you with accessibility as well as the opportunity to avoid airport traffic and parking space concerns. You can fly in and out of town without having to arrange your entire day around it. There is no need to worry about missing your flight if ‘Lagos roads’ turn chaotic. With the Lagos state government in collaboration with Dangote now working on the Eleko-Epe road expansion project in a Public-Private partnership, connectivity from Windspring Estate to the airport will significantly improve.

With the fourth mainland bridge also set to begin construction shortly, it’s easy to see why this location will attract a large population influx eager to take advantage of its limitless potential.

Equally, proximity to an airport speeds up the level of development of the neighborhood. Ibeju-Lekki is bound to emerge as a commercial destination, witnessing explosive expansion in infrastructure and developments like retail outlets, malls, hotels, schools, entertainment zones and restaurants. This level of development guarantees a high standard of living and access to premium services and amenities.

Property Appreciation

Windspring Estate is only 20 minutes away from the new international airport; hence land in that location is likely to appreciate faster than in other parts of Ibeju Lekki. Furthermore, Windspring Estate’s Gazette Title makes it a must-have for investors because it is free of government encumbrance and allows investors to resell, apply for C of O or build on the site whenever they are ready.
